Neem Karoli Baba was born in a Brahmin family around 1900 in village Akbarpur in Firozabad district, Uttar Pradesh, India. He was named Laxman Das Sharma. He was married at the age of 11 by his parents and after some time he decided to be a monk and he left the home. He later returned home to live a married life at the request of his father. He had two sons and a daughter and he left his home again in 1958.

Neem Karoli Baba was a great Indian saint also known as Neeb Karori Baba and his devotees called him “Maharaj-ji”. His teaching was universal and simple which made it easy for people to get it. He believed that “all is one”. In his teaching he taught to serve everyone, love everyone, say the truth and remember God. He was a great devotee of lord Hanuman and his devotion reflected the depth of heart.

Why do even successful people like Kalam, Modi, and Sachin visit the Babas (godmen)?

Not every baba is fake in india.

This is kainchi dham temple in Nainital district of uttrakhand.

It was the ashram of spiritual guru Neem karoli baba popularly known as “Maharajji” by his disciples.

He is widely known outside India for being guru of a lot of Americans who travelled India in the 70s.

In the late 60's an American known as Baba Ram Dass authored books telling of Neem Karoli Baba and hundreds of westerners went for his darshan.

Some of his most famous disciples.

Steve jobs

Jobs arrived in 1974 on a trip around India. He had a growing interest in Eastern spirituality and a classmate had met the guru and urged Jobs to meet him, Jobs told his biographer, Walter Isaacson.

But when he arrived, suffering from dysentery, Jobs was disappointed to learn that the guru had died the previous September. He spent most of his time walking around nearby villages and reading an English version of “Autobiography of a Yogi,” the story of another famed sage, according to Isaacson

Mark Zuckerberg

During the townhall meeting with PM Modi, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed that when his company was going through a tough patch, Steve Jobs advised him to visit a temple in India, where the Apple co-founder had also experienced life-changing spiritual reflection.

Neem Karoli Baba is also known as Neeb Karori Baba, and is called “Maharaj-ji” by His devotees. Maharaj-ji’s teachings were simple and universal. He often said, “Sub Ek” — All is One. He taught us to “love everyone, serve everyone, remember God, and tell the truth.” Strongly connected to Hanuman, the Hindu God in the form of a monkey, Maharaj-ji “taught” in a highly personalized, non-traditional way that reflected the deep devotion of the bhakti path of the heart. Known as the “Miracle Baba” throughout north India, He manifested many siddhis (powers), such as being in two places at once or putting devotees in samadhi (state of God consciousness) at the touch of a finger.

Maharaj-ji is best known for the unconditional love He showered on all who came into His presence as well as those who never met Him in the body but established a connection to him beyond the physical plane.

This is how Maharaj-Ji became known as Neem Karoli Baba, which means the sadhu from Neem Karoli (or Neeb Karori). This was many years ago, perhaps when Maharaj-ji was in his late twenties or early thirties. For several days, no one had given him any food and hunger drove him to board a train for the nearest city. When the conductor discovered Maharaj-ji seated in the first class coach without a ticket, he pulled the emergency brake and the train ground to a halt. After some verbal debate, Maharaj-ji was unceremoniously put off the train. The train had stopped near the village of Neeb Karori where Maharaj-Ji had been living.

Maharaj-ji sat down under the shade of a tree while the conductor blew his whistle and the engineer opened the throttle. But the train didn’t move. For some time the train sat there while every attempt was made to get it to move. Another engine was called in to push it, but all to no avail. A local magistrate with one arm, who knew of Maharaj-ji, suggested to the officials that they coax that young sadhu back onto the train. Initially the officials were appalled by such superstition, but after many frustrating attempts to move the train they decided to give it a try.

Many passengers and railway officials approached Maharaj-ji, carrying with them food and sweets as offerings to Him. They requested that He board the train. He agreed on two conditions: The railway officials must promise to have a station built for the village of Neeb Karori (at the time the villagers had to walk many miles to the nearest station), and the railroad must henceforth treat sadhus better. The officials promised to do whatever was in their power, and Maharaj-ji finally re-boarded the train. Then they asked Maharaj-ji to start the train. He got very abusive and said, “What, is it up to me to start trains?” The engineer started the train, the train traveled a few yards, and then the engineer stopped it and said, “Unless the sadhu orders me, I will not go forward.” Maharaj-ji said, “Let him go.” And they proceeded. Then Maharaj-ji said that the officials kept their word, and soon afterward a train station was built at Neeb Karori and sadhus received more respect.

The Ashram is located in Kainchidham which is very beautiful and peaceful place to visit.

Thank you.

"He told me that in order to reconnect with what I believed as the mission of the company, I should visit this temple that he had gone to in India, early on in his evolution of thinking about what he wanted Apple and his vision of the future to be, the month-long trip reinforced for me the importance of what we were doing," Zuckerberg said.

Kainchi dham is situated 17 km far from nainital . I advice you all to visit once and feel the serenity and calm.

He is also known as “Miracle Baba” throughout North India, he manifested several siddhis such as being in two places at once or turning river water into ghee etc. Maharaj-ji is best known for his unconditional love. After leaving Karori village forever due to some reason he took its name himself after that he is also known as Neeb Karori Baba.

People also consider him to be an incarnation of Hanuman ji. It is believed that Baba Neeb Karori had many miraculous achievements by worshiping Hanuman ji. He used to stay away from hypocrisy and show. He liked to live simply. He never used any kind of tilak on the forehead nor wore any necklace on the neck. He lived like a common man and not let anyone touch his feet. If someone tried to touch his feet, he used to ask him to touch the feet of Lord Hanuman.

People from all over the world came here after hearing about Baba. Baba’s devotee and well-known writer Richard Albert has written a book “Miracle of Love” on Baba. Apart from these, Apple founder Steve Jobs, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and big foreign celebrities like Hollywood actress Julia Roberts are also devotees of Baba.

He has a very famous tale. Maharaj-ji did not get food for several days in his twenties or early thirties and due to hunger he decided to go to the nearest town and caught a train for it. When the conductor found Maharaj-ji sitting in the first class coach without a ticket, he took him off from the train after the emergency break. The train stopped near Neeb Karori village where Maharaj-ji lived.

The conductor rang his whistle but the train did not move. The train was stopped for some time while every effort was made to run it, but to no avail. Maharaj-ji sat under the shade of a tree. The local magistrates who knew about Maharaj-ji, He suggested to the authorities that they bring that saint back in the train.

After this, many passengers and railway officials came to Maharaj-ji with food and sweets. They requested him to board the train. Baba agreed with two conditions that Railways would have to build a station for the village of Neeb Karori and let the railway administration treat the Sadhus better. After this he boarded the train and the train started. The authorities have fulfilled their promises, and soon a train station was built at Neeb Karori and the sadhus received more respect.

Neem Karoli Baba (Maharaj Ji) died on September 11, 1973 at a hospital in Vrindavan after being diagnosed with diabetic coma. After his death, his Samadhi Mandir was built inside the premises of Vrindavan Ashram.
