Yes, this is a very important question, and thank you for asking because we have to understand the major difference when we talk about self-respect.
It happens when we believe that we are under the correct value and ethics, then we try to protect them by showing our self-respect but ego in itself is actually attached to “I".
A person who is so much angry or so much weak both are egoist because the focus is only on I.
An ego actually always in a mood to protect and try its best not to harm ourselves.
That is why even if someone said a simple line to us we become offended.
But self-respect is when you know that morality and ethics are being considered and you cannot compromise with that.
