The Shivaratri pooja is done during night.The whole night is divided into four durations or Prahar.The pooja is done from Sunset to Sunrise.On the day of Shivratri take bath and light Sacred Lamp or Diya in the house in front of Photo or Shivalinga.You can offer Bilva leafs,white flower,holy water from ganges,sacred ash,sandal wood paste to lord Shiva.After that you can meditate and chant Om Namah Shivaya.Observing fast is very good on this day.If you go to temple pour water,milk and offer Bilva leaf,Datura,White Flowers and Chant Om Namah Shivaya.
Many people do Rudra abhishek or get it done by Priest.Most people do not sleep at night of Maha Shiv Ratri to remove negativity or Sins and chant Shiva Mantras.People stay awake and mediate on Lord Shiva In Maha kaleshwar temple in Ujjain Bhasma Arti is done which Gods favourite Arti. Panchamrit Pooja or Rudraabhishek is done on Shiva Lingam.Panchamrita consists of Cows Milk,Curd,Ghee, Honey and Sugar.Lord Shiva is offered Bilva Leaf ,Flowers and Sacred ashes.After this it is served to all devotees.Shiva Ratri is very important for all Hindus.
