Dharavi Slum Redevelopment : Shinde Govt Floats Global Tender For Rs 20,000 crore Project

Maharashtra: Govt floats global tender for Dharavi redevelopment within three months of coming to power.


The government of Maharashtra has floated fresh global tenders for the much-delayed redevelopment of Asia's biggest slum Dharavi spread over 600 acres of prime land in the heart of the country's commercial capital Mumbai.
A week after deciding to invite fresh bids for the Dharavi Redevelopment project, the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government on 1 October floated a global tender, which is estimated to cost over 20,000 crore. The state government is mulling to finish the bidding process by 2022-end. The winning bidder, apart from redevelopment, will have to work on the the rehabilitation of more than 56,000 families. The project is estimated to be completed in 7 years.
"We have floated global bids, and are now expecting to complete the bidding process within the next two to three months. However, it will be premature to comment on the date of work commencement as currently the timeline for completion of the bidding process is set," Moneycontrol quoted chief executive officer for Dharavi redevelopment projects SVR Srinivas as saying. Dharavi is situated close to Bandra-Kurla Complex, the financial hub of Mumbai. It is the centre point of Mumbai and well connected with all kinds of public transport modes.

Railway stations at Sion, Mahim, Chunabhatti, GTB Nagar and King’s Circle are adjacent to Dharavi. Further, MMRCL is developing Dharavi Metro station (Mumbai Metro Line – 3) which has connectivity to South Mumbai, BKC and International Airport.

Additionally, connectivity of the area will get further strengthened by plans of MMRDA to develop one more road linkage to Banda Worli Sea Link near Dharavi, Further Mumbai Trans-Harbour link under construction connecting central Mumbai with international Airport is very close to Dharavi.

As a Special Project and vital Public Purpose Project, Government of Maharashtra has endeavored to provide various concessions for the speedy completion of this Project and integrated development of the area as a growth centre.
The Slum Rehabilitation Authority will award the contract to the bidder quoting the highest amount over and above the stipulated minimum investment of Rs 1,600 crore that the lead partner of this special purpose vehicle is ready to bring in.
