Sometimes ago, you will read one story related to this topic in one of the newspapers.
Ok Let’s start a story:
The maid was busy with routine work. I was also busy with my daily routine work.
Maid: Madam, I need 500 Rupees in urgent and two days leave.
Me: What happened, you already have taken your salary in advance.
Maid: I am going to my sister’s home. 2 months back she had a baby and due to some personal problem, I was not able to go there.
Me: it’s okay but already you have taken advance money, and also you will take leave, So go and do your pending work.
Maid: Madam, you can adjust the money in my next month's salary and only, I will take two days' leave.
I told no, and went into the kitchen. My husband was listening to these conversations and told me to give money to her as she is an old maid, hardworking and loyal. Then I called her and gave her 500 Rupees. She was very happy.
After two days she return back and was doing routine work. I just asked her how she spent 500 Rupees, then she gave the below description:
I went with my 10-year old child, so two bus tickets cost 80/-. bought one clothes for the baby (120/-), a slipper for my sister’s husband (80/-), sandals for my sister (80/-), sweet (40/-), half a dozen banana (15/-), bangles for sister (20/-), one toy for her 4-year old boy (40/-).
Still, you have 25/-, I told to her.
Yes, she told.
In the evening I told all these descriptions to my husband.
He: See, the value of money changes from person to person, for us 500/- may cost nothing but snacks or food for outside, but for others can happily live a whole day with it.
Me: I agree with you, she was looking very happy.
So 500 rupees may lot in India.
It depends on the person, expenses and if emotions are added, then the value of money increases beyond its digit.
If you're from Kolkata, you can get 3 days 3 time meals with 500 rupees.
2: You can get 3 beer bottles in 500 rupees, LOL!
3: You can go out for a dinner in a decent restaurant along with your partner with 500 rupees.
4: You can get around 50–100 samosas in 500 rupees.
5: You can take 2–3 Uber rides with 500 rupees. If you travel by bus, you can take around 50 bus rides.
500 Rupees is not a lot but if you know how to use it, you may assume it a lot.
To be honest i wouldn’t say 500 rupees as a lot of money but it’s enough to spend a average day on 500, although it depends on which city of India You are talking about, as if you’re in Mumbai or bengalore then 500 rupees is very less, you just may find food for a day in this much money, but if you’re in Kolkata then it’s more because in 500 rupess you can afford food and lodging there as there’s more options which are less expensive in kolkata comparing the other cities. But overall from a general perspective 500 rupees isn’t a lot of money in India, It is though enough to spend an average day.
