Messi is born with talent while Ronaldo is a product of training and hardwork. Is it really true that Messi doesn't work as hard as CR7?

Messi works as hard as Ronaldo. Before anyone goes crazy, hear me out.

Ronaldo looks as if he works very hard, having an amazing body and looking very fit and playing game after game at a very high level. And that’s true he works very hard. Messi’s body is not as fit as Ronaldo’s (even though he is still very fit) but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t work as hard.

It’s impossible for any athlete to stay such high level of their game for a decade without hard work. IT’S JUST IMPOSSIBLE. I started to follow soccer from 2007 and till now enjoyed each and every moment of one of the greatest rivalry in sports history. It’s CR7 Vs LM10. At first thanks them for giving a lot of moments to the entire world to celebrate.

Messi is a natural dribbler and born with talent, while Ronaldo is a product of training and hard work. That does not mean that Ronaldo doesn’t have talent and Messi doesn’t do hard work. If you see carefully from the beginning of their career till now, with time they change their certain style of play which make them more sharper and dangerous in the field. They are able to do that coz they are well aware of their ability. This is the result of the hard work they put in training, gym etc. etc.

Cristiano has a freaking work ethics, he work so hard to stay stay fit for every game. His hard work doesn’t gone unnoticed from his awesome physique, both strong feet and bullet header (few from a lot). Messi isn’t as fit as Ronaldo, that doesn’t mean he didn’t do hard work. According to the statistics there are 265 million soccer player (including male and female) around the world. To be one of the top two guys among such a crazy number for around a decade there is no other way than working super hard.

IT’S TRUE, IT’S DAMN TRUE.

Messi’s hard work goes unoticed for a lot of people. I am not one of those people. I have seen Messi over the years (aswell as Ronaldo) and I am an avid follower of them both. I think I am qualified enough to answer this.

  • Look at Messi’s free-kicks when he was young, he wasn’t very good at them and didn’t attempt much of them. Now he is considered among the best free-kick takers in the world.
  • Look at Messi’s playmaking when he was young. Above average, sure, but far from being great at it. Now he is considered one of the best playmakers in the world.
  • Look at Messi’s penalties in the 2015/2016 season : 4/8 were converted, that is bad. Look at him in the 2016/2017 season : he scored 9/10 pens. I think that was the best record in Europe that season.

Do you see a pattern here ? When he has a weakness, he works on it and perfects it. That takes a lot of hard work, but since it is all technical and not physical, people do not notice it. I want to highlight that word : TECHNICAL. He works very hard on his technique and it shows on the pitch.

Phenomenal talent and unparalleled dedication results in the greatest football player to have ever lived …

Here's why you are correct that Messi doesn't work as hard as CR7:

HE DOESN'T NEED TO.

Let me explain.

If, as the inventor Thomas Edison said, “Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration”, then Messi is beyond genius.

He's magical…because, in his genius, and per the original premise, there is no evidence of perspiration.

Further, his performance, runs, moves, and finishes are often inexplicable. Put colloquially, he is simply “another level”.

This leads me to conclude that magical is 1% perspiration and 99% “WTF!?”. As both his enriched teammates and shredded opponents would agree, that's Messi. Magical.

Those who saw his frustrations in World Cup 2018 and were unfortunate to have not witnessed him in his prime may not understand. I, on the other hand, was blessed to have witnessed his magic--up close. El Clasico, Camp Nou, Barcelona, 2012Apr22. My honeymoon present from my wife.

And what a show it was.
