There is already established interest to work together from both parties as he was famously a finalist for the role of Captain America. Marvel has a history of using actor for one role after they auditioned for another.
The role of Reed is predicted to be a mix between the comic version and what the MCU typically does for characters. You want a Reed that can be assertive, have chemistry with other characters. You eventually want someone that can play a positive father figure. And because it's the MCU you want a comedic skills. Krasinski can do all of that.
Krasinski is a leading man in Hollywood that's popular, and there aren't that many left unattached to an action franchise. Since the Disney acquisition, Marvel really wants to hire bigger names when they can.
Okay, I have never understood the big push for Krasinscki to play Reed Richards and your answer sort of clarifies why people think it’s a good idea but the concept still doesn’t make one lick of sense to me. Maybe I’m just not a fan but it seems like he only has two modes as an actor, “shrugging slacker bro” and “bland action hero for bland dads” and neither of those modes really screams “Mr. Fantastic” to me.
Timothy Olyphant makes a little bit more sense but not necessarily for this character. He’s definitely way overdue for a spot in the MCU, the guy has the action and comedy bona fides and is charming as all hell. That being said, his characters tend to be clever roguish types (except for Santa Clarita Diet, where he was absolutely hilarious cast against type) and I have trouble imagining him as some square-jawed superscience type.
I always thought that Olyphant would be a perfect Gambit and Jon Hamm would be a perfect Reed Richards but at this point they’re probably both to old to play those characters.
John Krasinski as Reed Richards is a popular casting call because it is one half of a package deal – the other half being Emily Blunt as Sue Storm.
Fans are obviously enthusiastic to see the real-life couple portray the reel-life couple. But aside from that aspect, neither of the two would be my first picks for the respective characters.
While Blunt as Sue works better than Krasinski as Reed, they're not exactly first draft picks. And it has nothing to do with the caliber of the respective actors.
If this casting indeed goes through, which is highly unlikely, the two will almost certainly do a fine job bringing the iconic duo to life.
But in an ideal world, here's whom I would want to see as Reed Richards and Sue Storm:
Timothy Olyphant
Well, for starters, he's already decked out with Reed's signature greying temples.
But more importantly, Olyphant is a phenomenal actor with tremendous range. He's got every base covered to play Reed.
He was in the running for Iron Man but ultimately lost out to Robert Downey Jr. Also, watch any interview of his on Conan; he's dripping with charm and charisma.
Watch him as Joel, husband to Drew Barrymore's undead wife in Santa Clarita Diet to get a glimpse into her nerdy side. He steals every scene he's in and is an absolute delight.
And then there's his work in Justified, which doesn't need expanding upon. He's outstanding.
Olyphant is both insanely charismatic and incredibly talented. He could have played Tony Stark or Stephen Strange, and he can just as well play Reed Richards.
Sarah Gadon
This was slightly harder because there are a lot of great actresses who could successfully play this role.
Emily Blunt would doubtless do justice to Sue, but she's perhaps a bit too 'badass.' She would have been perfect for Captain Marvel, but that ship has already sailed.
Sarah Gadon would make for a fantastic Sue. The physical resemblance is definitely there. And she's earned rave reviews for her starring turn in the miniseries Alias Grace.
She was sensational in 11.22.63 as well. Her star is on the rise, and Marvel loves tapping up-and-coming actors; much like they did with Elizabeth Olsen.
However, given how these decisions typically pan out, it’s unlikely that any of these actors are going to be cast.
Besides, we've already got John Krasinski in the MCU:
