Famous last words before executionWhat are the most famous last words in history?

Spike Millgan’s grave stone apparently has the following epitaph: “Shoot straight, ya bastards!” - Breaker Morant, an Aussie officer executed by English officers for following their orders. I recently read about a man about to be executed in Texas, when asked if he had any last words, he said “tell my lawyer he's fired”

“Such is life" - Ned Kelly, an Australian bushranger oppressed and persecuted by the English for trying to be free.

“Last words are for fools who haven't said enough" - Karl Marx, a Russian that wrote a manifesto. 😅

1. During the 3rd century, St. Lawrence was sentenced to death in Rome for being a Christian. The Roman official sentenced him to a cruel death. He was to be burnt alive. His last words were:

“Look, wretch, you have me well done on one side, turn me over and eat.”

2. Archimedes is a renowned ancient Greek mathematician who invented the sciences of mechanics and hydro-statics. He discovered various methods to move heavy objects using small forces, such as the lever and pulley.

Archimedes' last words were "Do not disturb my circles", a reference to the circles in the mathematical drawing that he was studying before being killed by a Roman soldier.

3. Voltaire, a celebrated philosopher, was vehemently hated for rebelling against religious intolerance and absolute monarchy.

Throughout his life, Voltaire’s longest and hardest crusade was the freedom to communicate. Freedom of speech, he believed, was the root of all freedom because only freedom of speech had the capability to opening someone’s eyes to the truth. {TB}

Alexander the Great had two quotes at the end of his life. Alexander had pancreatitis. At the time of his suffering there was no known treatment for pancreatitis. He said “I have the greatest doctors in the world here to watch me die!” The other famous quote at the end of his life, Alexander had an infant son who was in no position to assert authority over his far flung kingdom. His five Generals gathered around him and asked who would inherit his throne. His answer “The strongest!” The five Generals divided up His kingdom. His wife and infant son were killed almost immediately to prevent them from claiming any part of his realm.

When the priest urged him to renounce Satan, he replied, “This is no time to make new enemies.”
