Why were the Indian characters in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire movie so poorly dressed for the ball?

Maybe they wanted to add diversity but honestly, in the books, they were wearing robes. I went through my GoF copy to find what they were wearing:

Parvati was waiting for Harry at the foot of the stairs. She looked very pretty indeed, in robes of shocking pink, with her long dark plait braided with gold, and gold bracelets glimmering at her wrists…

Parvati found her sister, Padma, and led her over to Harry and Ron.

“Hi,” said Padma, who was looking just as pretty as Parvati in robes of bright turquoise.

See? Robes, not lehengas.

Nevertheless, if they wanted to put Indian clothes, they could’ve at least put good ones.

I think it was definitely either poor research or trying to keep Hermione in the spotlight. Any Indian can see that their ‘lehengas’ were nothing like what Indians actually wear. I have some of the most beautifully designed Indian dresses and what I saw the twins wearing was just something Indians would call ‘plain’.

See this beautiful lehenga

Or this dress that is called a churidar which is my preferred Indian clothing

I think it looks regal and graceful but it’s also simple and beautiful.

Now, look at the way that the scarf or the dupatta is placed in the first pic. Beautiful right?

Now look at the twins’ clothes

Not going to lie, I love their earrings but let’s look at the rest.

The colour combination? It’s good, I guess, but it could be wayyy better! The colours aren’t the best in combination and so many other colours could have been used.

Their dupatta placement? I’m sorry but no Indian wears their dupatta like that unless they're going to do some hardcore dancing. Yes, the twins were supposed to dance at the ball but if it's light dancing then you could just pin the dupatta to your shoulder so that it won't fall off. It looks better that way. You could also just put it around your neck so that the two ends are hanging at your back.

Jewellery? Heck no. I’m gonna be honest. You can find these bangles in India for about 10–30 rupees. Maybe 30 rupees is even a bit more expensive in terms of those bangles. It’s not even a whole set for each girl. It’s just one set of bangles split between the two girls. Plus, no girl wears bangles on one hand and nothing on the other hand. Something is always there. Either more bangles, bracelets, watch etc.
Even this

A finger ring bracelet can be worn.

Their hair? Their hairstyles actually looked good albeit plain but imagine had they been wearing this kind of hairstyle

That’s a messy sort of braid with small flowers woven in.

Or maybe something like this

Sweet, simple, still elegant. (The girl in the pic might be wearing extensions but the twins had natural hair and would still look nice.)

Pretty right? The flowers aren’t even necessary.

My point is that they could have done so much more with the Indian characters. They were literally the only Indian characters and the fact that even their representation wasn't that good was just sad. They could have used fancy or simple clothes, jewellery, hair literally anything.

The actors did a superb job and managed to pull off those lousy dresses. Did they look beautiful? Yes. Could they have looked better? Oh, definitely.

These images do not belong to me. I got them from Google.

Thanks for Reading
