Which oil is best for Indian cooking?

Most of the fats we eat should be polyunsaturated (PUFA) or monounsaturated (MUFA) fats. Oils are the major source of MUFAs and PUFAs in the diet.

PUFAs contain some fatty acids that are necessary for health – called "essential fatty acids.

Hence it is very important that we make the right choice of cooking oil for ourselves.

Oil extracted by cold press method is the best oil for Indian cooking because it is done by traditional process i.e. seeds are crushed by pressing them without use of any high heat and chemicals by using wooden pestle and ural.

Oil extracted from this technique is free from any preservatives and chemicals. This oil retains its all essential enzymes, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants.

Following cooking oil is considered as best cooking oil for good health:

Mustard Oil -

Known for its strong flavor, pungent aroma, and high smoke point, it’s often used for sautéing and stir-frying vegetables.

Mustard oil provide following benefits:

Groundnut Oil -

Groundnuts contain 40 to 50 percent fat. Most of this is unsaturated fat (both poly and mono) which is good fat. This reduces the risk of heart disease and lowers bad cholesterol levels.

Groundnut oil contains phytochemicals and vitamin E, both of which are natural antioxidants. The antioxidants present in groundnut oil are its greatest assets.

Groundnut oil provide following benefits:

Coconut Oil:

Coconut oil is very different from most other cooking oils and contains a unique composition of fatty acids. Coconut oil is rich in several types of saturated fat that are otherwise uncommon. These include lauric acid and medium-chain fatty acids. The fatty acids are about 90% saturated. The coconut oil is highly resistant to oxidation at high heat. For this reason, it is very suitable for high-heat cooking methods like frying.

Groundnut oil provide following benefits:

Sunflower Oil:

Sunflower oil is high in vitamin E which is a powerful antioxidant that is known to protect the health of our cells tissues and organs and may play a part in boosting our immune system.

Sunflower oil is loaded with monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats which provide the body with a good source of fuel. This oil can effectively lower our total cholesterol levels as well as the build-up of ‘bad’ low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol.

Sunflower oil provide following benefits:

· Naturally rich in Vitamin A and E that improves skin health

· Rich in alpha linolenic acid that boosts heart health and may reverse atherosclerosis

· Easy to digest and absorb and increases gut immunity

Safflower Oil:

Safflower oil is a rich source of unsaturated fatty acids, including monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.

It also contains a high amount of vitamin E which helps in blood circulation, reducing respiratory problems, preventing scarring, and moisturizing properties as well.

Safflower seed oil is a good replacement for your refined cooking oils.

Sunflower oil provide following benefits:

· Has a high smoking point and neutral flavor.

· Avoids high cholesterol, diabetes, stroke and heart disease.

· Improves health conditions like obesity, premenstrual syndrome, blemishes, hair fall and acne problems.

Sesame Oil

Sesame oil has a high smoking point making it highly appropriate for stir-frying, this oil is least prone to rancidity and contains a high content of antioxidants.

Sesame oil provide following benefits:

· Boosts up Heart Health and Improves Circulation

· Contains amino acid-like tyrosine which helps to fight

I personally prefer cold pressed sunflower oil & groundnut oil because they have more essential nutrients and vitamins.

As markets are flooded with cold pressed oil selecting the best one at times becomes tricky. Hence I would like to suggest you Healthy Roots cold pressed oil which I have been using for a while making me more healthier.
