Which celebrity couples on paper should not work?

I was a teenager in the 1990's. When I was growing up, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddy Prinze Jr. were two of the quintessential teen idols who everyone was crazy about, but who you assumed were going to crash and burn when their celebrity inevitably faded.

I think I knew that they were dating, which made sense, such stars frequently hooked up. I may have heard that they got married, but if I did, I would have instantly brushed it off, with the assumption that they'd be divorced in a year.

I mean, young and good-looking actors in their brief careers frequently get together, but how often does it last? It usually ends with either a public shouting match, or with tabloids reporting on their affairs to one of the few people who still care about these people.

And this couple, in particular, was of the type of fame that doesn't last. His career basically fizzled by the early 2000's, her fame lasted a little longer, but the writing was on the wall. By all logic, their relationship should be a minor footnote in late 20th century pop culture history.

So I was genuinely stunned to learn that they're still together, to this day.

They've been married 18 years, have two kids, and by most accounts seem pretty happy together. By all logic, this relationship should never have lasted as something real and long-term, yet they managed to beat the odds.

I still laugh whenever a young celebrity couple insists that they've found true love, and they're going to be together forever. But it's genuinely nice to find out when a couple is able to make it work and build a life together. Good for them.
