What is the difference between a PhD in India and a PhD in Europe?

My Friend did PhD in India so I know about the Indian situation (a little bit) and one of my Facebook friend is doing her Ph.D. from Europe so I know a little bit about that too.

The main differences I can tell you are as follows…

  • Money (Fellowship)

The Indian fellowship amount will be 25000 to 28000 per month. The amount is not too much but when compared to the earlier fellowships, it is a respectable amount.

In European countries, the fellowship amount is 1500 to 2000 € (1.5 to 2 lac per month). In Indian perspective the amount is good. Even though you will spend 50000 or 75000 per month you can save some good amount.

The money is actually one of the biggest difference.

  • Objectives

The objectives wise Indian students will change its objectives throughout Ph.D. that is why it will take time. On the other hand in the European countries, the objectives will be predefined. This helps the students to focus more.

In India, it is like this

In European countries

  • Respect

Indian Ph.D. students will not get much respect from society, family, and other people but if you are doing it in European countries things will be different.

Ph.D. students condition is somehow similar to this

But at the same time if you are doing it outside

..

In the end the thing is, it doesn't matter from where you are doing Ph.D., the thing matters are your knowledge. In India, Ph.D. students will not respect their own work so how society will react positively?

Apart from these problems, some common problems are like
