What country in Europe is the most similar to the United States?

Politically, none. But if you are looking for a place where you could give yourself to the illusion of being in a New England state or even Alaska every now and then, Sweden will work well.

When you cruise through a Swedish suburb, and can ignore the odd car of clearly Europe only spec, you may feel like you are in a really pretty corner of Connecticut or Massachusetts.

And further north, where I live, you can go days thinking you are in the state of Maine, or Alaska. Here, some images from my neck of the woods, Jämtland and Västernorrland, Sweden:

Things get more European once you get into city centres, of course. There, the mimickry clearly breaks down. But perhaps that’s not such a bad thing:
