Was it insensitive of Melania Trump to wear a pith helmet in Africa?

Okay, when I saw this question, I thought: “what the hell is a pith helmet?”

Then I googled “melania trump pith helmet,” and I saw this:

Now, I have a rather twisted sense of humor, so to me, this is just about the funniest thing in the world. But I don’t think this is what she was going for.

Why is this so funny? It just seems like such an apt metaphor for Trump’s relationship with people of African descent.

For those who don’t know, there’s not an African who will see this piece of headgear without being reminded of colonization. This is because we all grew up seeing pictures like this:

Basically, it’s what you would wear if you went to Africa trying to look like a colonialist.

Obviously, she didn’t do it on purpose. But, seriously, White people, skip the pith helmet if you’re going to visit Africa.
