The presupposition behind the main question and your response is that Abrams wants a position in the administration. From what I’ve seen and heard from her on news programs is that that may not be the case. She may have other priorities such as securing effective Democratic races for the primaries. It may be that Biden’s best bet for help from Abrams is for her to be out doing what she has demonstrated she’s champion at, organizing the midterm vote so that the Democrats remain in control of both houses of Congress, thereby allowing Biden’s agenda to extend into the second half of his first term.
She was reportedly on the short list of picks for a couple of positions, VP being one. She said in an interview about those speculations that she was flattered, but that she still had a lot of work left to do in Georgia, and wanted to stay there and finish what she started. I would have been more disappointed in Biden if he hadn't respected her wishes.
I agree she is an extraordinary talent and I too look forward to keeping tabs on what she chooses to do. She strikes me as being laser focused as well as possessed of an intelligence our country desperately needs. Keep at it, Stacey. And Henry, I appreciate your contributions to this forum.
I don’t actually know what’s going on behind the scenes. I can’t imagine that, given her success and the benefit of having her on their team, that there isn’t a place for her in the larger scheme. It’s entirely possible that she wants to stay in focus on organizing in the south, and it might be that that is the best strategy for her talents at this exact moment.
Stacey Abrams is a star, she has personally developed the winning formula for the Democratic party and she has produced. I don’t think we can highlight this enough. Of course there were others, thousands, 10s of thousands of others who also organized and made it happen in Georgia where she did get not only Georgia for President Elect Biden but also crucially 2 Senate seats for the Democrats which is absolutely unprecedented in heretofore ruby red Georgia.
Vote, that says it all!
I have written elsewhere what that formula should be about ground game, keeping it focused, simple and delivering jobs and money into the pockets of voters to keep them afloat.
She could be nominated for the Supreme Court, but that would be a waste of her talent.
I would like to see a new cabinet position which would establish guidelines for our republic. States need basic rules on transparency, access to fair and equal registration with unbiased oversight.
But I would like to pause and say, I am a little disappointed in Biden. He can reward all of his Obama team, he can do the max on diversity, he can bring people like Mayor Pete in but he can’t find a spot for Stacey who fought a battle then another then another and won and won and won.
After losing a disputed governor’s election to Kemp just 2 years ago, she never relented. She doubled down, she went out and joined with others to do registrations, the mail in voting you name it she made it happen.
Sure she can run for governor and yes she needs to prove she can do something besides organizing voters. I get it, but I just hope that Biden finds a way to bring that energy, intelligence, drive and perseverance over incredible odds into his administration.
Stacey Abrams is too good of a talent to waste. She has real potential and she is a winner. She brings a lot more than anyone else could to Biden’s team including Kamala Harris or anyone else. Stacey knows people and in the end, politics is all about people and connecting and she knows how to do that better than just about anyone.
Looking forward to seeing her next move whatever it is and supporting her to the max. Good luck Stacey you deserve a victory lap however you want to take it.
