Many Donald Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol today took selfies and allowed others to post photos of them. Since this could prove an easy way to identify them, what is the possibility of seeing some arrested for trespassing or other charges?

This is John Wilkes Booth

You may have heard of him.

Booth was a famous actor and one of the most famous personalities in the United States. When he went to shoot Lincoln, he didn’t shave off his mustache or wear any kind of disguise which would have been so so easy because he was an actor who played parts.

“Lincoln was shot by Brutus officer!”

After shooting Lincoln, Booth jumped onto the stage, shouted something (there’s an argument as to what, but it was probably the Latin for “Death to Tyrants!”) before darting from the theatre on a broken leg.

In other words, Booth made no effort to hide his involvement in the crime.

Why? Because he expected to be hailed as a hero, that’s why.

And every single person who invaded the Capitol expected the same thing. They were certain that the rest of the population would appreciate their efforts. They were, after all, Proud Boys.

Hell, one of the insurgents was identified when his father tweeted a picture of him saying how proud he was of his son.

Booth found out before he died that he had been identified and that public opinion, both in the North and in the South, was 100% against him. Every editorial in the nation denounced him and the assassination. He was eventually killed by the soldiers sent to take him back to Washington for trial.

At least John Brown, although proud of what he did, knew a good proportion of the population would hate him for trying to start a slave revolt. He just didn’t care.
