Guns'n'Roses were recording their masterpiece Appetite For Destruction. They were already quite famous in the Los Angeles scene and could already boast a fair number of groupies. One of them, a nineteen-year-old girl named Adriana Smith, was having an affair with drummer Steven Adler. But Steven wasn't exactly a loyal monogamist and often gave in to the advances of other girls. Adriana found out and didn't take it well. She pondered as well as taking revenge, and by attending the studio where the group was recording, she found inspiration.
Guns are recording Rocket Queen, a song inspired by a woman who in those years represented a sort of reference in the Los Angeles musical underground. And Axl Rose has an idea: he wants to insert a recording of a real sexual act into the song. He exposes the idea to friends, Adriana is also nearby, who says she is willing to do it:
We were very drunk. I decided to take revenge on Steven and Axl agreed. It was all crazy, he said something to me about making a song, but I was drunk. We let everyone out. There was a booth covered with cushions, so not they could see us, and two other guys in the other cabin. They were a couple of hours recording us having sex.
Studio Assistant Vic Deyglio walks in and out of the booth to set up the microphones and later describes the scene as "a Ron Jeremy set".
The song becomes one of the flagship songs of Appetite For Destruction, but not much will be known about the story. Steven, who wasn't in the studio, obviously finds out and goes on a rampage.
The song will be heard by millions of people all over the world, but only over the years will the truth about those moans emerge, Adriana's revenge.
