How did Japan being such a small country take over a big country like China?

Japan is NOT a small country.

  • Territory

Compare Japan to countries in the Europe, Japan is larger than Germany, UK, and slightly smaller than France. The misunderstanding of Japan is small country mainly due to it’s shape is gangly, actually from the northernmost part to the southernmost part, the crow flies is about 1900 kilometers, by the way, the crow flies from Berlin to Moscow is 1600 kilometers.

  • Demography

Because of the country’s gangly shape, up to 90% of its population live in an area close to the sea within 50 kilometers, which means extremely convenient maritime trade.

  • Population

The number of people in Japan is 126 million, roughly equal to UK+France, or United Arab Emirates+Saudi Arabia+Kuwait+Syria+Iraq, or 5.5 Australia.

This is a photo of Tokyo, each part’s population in the pic correspond to a speficif country. Tokyo is home to 36 million people, more than the population of Canada. If Tokyo is an independent country, it’s economies of scale will rank 7th in the world, after the US, China, Germany, France, UK, and Italy.

  • Back to 1930s

The question is :

How did Japan being such a small country take over a big country like China?

Well, let’s see a pic first.

At that time, Japan was more powerful that it is now. In 1932, the Sino-Japanese started, Japan controlled the red and pink area, five years later, Japan controlled the yellow area, the most populated area of China.

  • Soldiers

Soldiers at that time, Left ones are Japanese soldiers, the right ones are Chinese Soldiers. Chinese commander ordered soldiers must fight only if it’s a four on one in close combat.
