Does "The American Dream" really exist anymore?

This is a great cartoon that describes today’s economic reality ...

What changed?

The rules of wealth have changed.

For decades, immigrating to America meant “The Land of Opportunity.” People moved to the US knowing that “If you work hard, you will succeed.”

The Industrial Revolution brought abundant growth. Opportunities for finding a job were almost everywhere.

As a result, the recipe for success was:

“Educate yourself. Go to college. Get a degree. Find a job. Buy a home, get a car, save money and enjoy life!”

To answer your question, does the “American Dream” really exist anymore?

Yes, but it’s quickly changing!

Today the American Dream is NOT founded on the discipline of hard work. The value of “work” is being quickly depreciated because of three main macroeconomic conditions:

  1. Today’s new economy is deflationary. To compete, companies (aka. job creators) MUST use technology to survive. The value of labor is shifting from “doing the job” to “managing the jobs” done by machines.
  2. The value of the dollar is being depreciated with today’s central bank monetary policies. Those working hard “for” money are working hard to receive a DEPRECIATED mechanism of exchange of value.
  3. If we combine both and add DEBT to the “fire,” we can find millions of honest, hard-working people confused, polarized and stuck in an endless “rat race” to make ends meet.

The American Dream is alive and well. The problem is that the rules of the game have DRAMATICALLY changed.

Today, more than ever before, it’s critical to work smarter, not only harder.
