I truly do not want to upset people, but look at human nature. What do celebrities long for that they do not possess? They have fame. Wealth. Their circle of friends might include other celebrities. They have homes, as in more than one or two. But money cannot buy royalty. Celebrities are thrilled to have a minute with Queen Elizabeth when they are knighted. A minute.
American celebrities do not have any reason to meet the Queen. They cannot be invited to be made a “Sir” or a “Dame”. Oprah, as well known as she is, does not have access to the Queen. She is not invited to have tea with Catherine or Prince William. Amal Clooney has no claim of friendship with Prince Charles. No. Royalty to this point in time has been private, tight-lipped (most of the time), and they keep to their very close circle of friends and family.
Until now. Now we have a prince gone rogue with a wife who desperately craves fame, wealth and climbed the ladder of celebrities to get to the point of having a $700,000 baby shower in NYC with people she did not speak with a mere two years ago. Gayle King? When did Oprah’s bestie become Meghan’s? Ooh…when she married a prince from the British royal family. Diana’s son. Everyone knows Diana, and everyone who knows Diana, knows her sons are Prince William (the heir) and Prince Harry.
When Meghan said she did not know Harry, she kinda skirted her way around the truth. We ALL know Prince Harry. Yes, she didn’t know him as in having met him and learned what his favorite color is. So technically what Meghan said in her engagement interview was true. But then she landed on the cover of Vanity Fair in the summer of 2016, I thought it would be the nail in the coffin for their bourgeoning romance. I thought Harry would break it off, because she kissed and told, and no one did that and got away with it. Not even Diana.
But for some reason, Meghan, the status climber, was allowed in. Was it because people were desperate for Prince Harry to land a wife and a baby before his grandmother passed? Because Prince Harry is likable enough. But Harry did not find a woman like Catherine.
And he was asked if perhaps things were going along too quickly with his new American girlfriend. They were. Fast forward two years, and Harry and Meghan, while living in Windsor, away from Kensington Palace and the other royals, are branding themselves. Meghan listens to her new bestie Victoria Beckham about branding. And suddenly the royals are selling themselves out to celebrities. Not most royals. Only two. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are making themselves available to celebrities who have wanted to see what life is like is like behind palace walls.
The rich and famous want to be royalty, but it is something unaccessible to everyone, except Grace Kelly, and she was classic and classy all the way and did not sell herself to others trying to be rich and famous. But Meghan is a whole different person. She wants the attention of the uber rich and most famous. That’s what the NYC baby shower (which Brits do not have, and sorry, David, but this is a British royal family and begging for gifts like an American is gauche) was all about! Meghan did not hide from paparazzi at all. She wowed her new rich and famous friends, and they lavished the best on their newest friend, the Duchess of Sussex. Finally, the celebrities longing for a taste of royalty have a person who gives them access to what has never before been granted.
Royalty is now up for sale to the highest bidders. That is my opinion. Yours may differ…
