Will Shah Rukh Khan ever be able to regain his lost glory in terms of the success of his movies?

The kind of movies Shah Rukh Khan did that skyrocketed him to fame and what he is now are mostly:

These are some of his early movies accompanied by some other good movies (according to those times) that established him as a bankable star. DDLJ gave him the glory and then people started depending on his films. After that, he has done movies in his later part of career like Chak De India and Swades which may have been okay-ish commercially but got him awards and accolades.

What set him apart was that he was a breath of fresh air then and many times his anti-hero or patriotic films were a new kind to that generation. In contrast to these times where the present generation has hands-on Hollywood as well as a variety of issues covered by Bollywood it is quite difficult to think out of the box.

Stars like Ayushman Khurana and Raj Kumar Rao have the advantage of being young to appeal to the youth. Robert De Niro did not act like a teenager in most of his movies and acted in films like The Intern that appealed to the youth irrespective of his age.

What our Bollywood stars need to come out of is the illusion of playing the romantic teenager or the young hero in love and must think about general issues. A movie like Piku got much more appreciation because of how close to reality it was. Jab Harry Met Sejal is a very ambitious movie which could have been made a lot better had it had lesser songs and dance numbers and the stars in the movie acted less like stars and much more like the characters.

For SRK to re-establish his career he must transform into something we haven’t seen him as before. Like a divorcee who is looking for love and managing his kids with a strong script and even a low budget would appeal to the public rather than a heavy budget zero script movie like ZERO.

He has the fortune to take risks and must give a chance to the budding scriptwriters and establish their careers by acting in their movies. Saif Ali Khan could re-establish himself with Sacred Games (never done something like that before) so why not Shah Rukh Khan who has a big fan following as well as a very strong acting talent.

Zero as a script is a very good initiative and a much different concept of the life of a dwarf, they could have made it award-worthy with this concept had they not made it commercial. All the songs and inclusion of Salman Khan was not necessary for the movie. We as a generation want to relate with a character through his ups and downs, suddenly transporting him to Mars isn’t what we want.

Edit- Honestly I think Zero was never a SRK movie, they spent a lot on the budget to make him look like a dwarf and he did so much to blend into the character that they got carried away and wanted to make money out of it so they made it commercial by including those dance numbers and a what not second half. Casting a real short height person could have saved them a lot of money and they could have focused on a stronger script with zero intentions to make it commercial. It is impossible to make an entertainer a commercial success nowadays, but the movie Stree is an exception. There are always exceptions but it requires a lot of thinking outside the box (but not till Mars). Fan as a movie was really good but it became very dark, SRK glamorized himself a lot to be honest. The end was predictable and what was even more wrong about it is that the time they spent on the makeup could have been spent to write a stronger background story of a character. It takes a lot to make people believe in a character, DC’s joker is such due to the things he went through, we need the character development as well as reasoning.
