Who thinks Marisa Tomei made an awful Aunt May?

Raises hand.

Newsflash: Most women are not attractive (or men).

I’ve been a bartender for a while, and I’ve worked around a lot of women who spent a good few decades, into their forties and fifties on their feet without much money or status. They do not look like Marisa Tomei. Sure, some of them do. Looks has a huge genetic component after all, but being good-looking is not common.

Have you seen what “most people” look like? It’s not like this.

The movies harp on how attractive she is. She’s hit on by Tony Stark!

I’m honestly surprised there is not more controversy surrounding this. Aunt May of all people should not be a sex object.

There’s also a weird classism to her interpretation as well. Spider-Man is poor, and Aunt May is usually living on welfare, taking some low pay job, or a combination of the two. There are some interpretations that have made her a nurse, but usually she is trying to raise a kid on a shoestring budget. In order to look like Marisa Tomei you need to take care of yourself and avoid stress, which is something Aunt May usually is not in a position to do. On top of that Aunt May has a really nice apartment. She needs to be pulling six figures to afford that place in Queens.

Yes, it’s just a terrible interpretation.
