Which two actors had the best chemistry in movies together?

Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt, but with a significant caveat.

I get the sense that I’m cheating a tad here because while Lawrence and Pratt had great chemistry in Passengers, that’s not the reason I’m choosing them.

First, some background.

I’m a film fiend. Along with devouring any movie I can get my hands on, I also watch pre-release interviews, particularly if the film has actors I find funny or interesting.

Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence are somewhere on the top of that pile.

Pratt is just straight-up hilarious; he is incredibly sharp — just watch few Parks and Recreation outtakes to see what I meant — his Kim Kardashian joke is a genuine contender for the best outtake of all time.

The cast comprised of current and future comedy icons, and almost all of them have stated that he was the funniest person on set. That’s high praise.

And Lawrence isn’t too shabby either. She’s got self-deprecating jokes for days, and an endearing brand of goofy charm. And she’s deceptively sharp.

Put the two of them together, and its fireworks.

The chemistry that the two shared during Passengers’ extended press tour was incredible. It was almost tangible.

There’s banter, and then there’s these two. Their sensibilities, at least in the interviews, are so perfectly in-sync with each other. The two are exchanging quips at a mile-a-minute.

Whether it’s on BBC’s Playground Insults, or Wired’s Autocomplete Interview, The Graham Norton Show, or in the seemingly thousands of interviews they gave together, their chemistry is off-the-charts.

It’s right up there with George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s interplay.

And while we certainly saw some of that in Passengers, the lacklustre script and some poorly thought out decisions derailed that film and dulled their chemistry.

But it’s there, and it’s ripe for the picking.

What they need is the right vehicle to truly shine a spotlight on their camaraderie – whether it’s a sharply written romantic comedy or even a comedy about siblings, these two can ace it.

So while their on-screen chemistry somewhat flattered to deceive, in large parts due to the quality of the movie they were in, their off-screen chemistry indicates that with the right project, they can flourish.

Now, if only somebody would make that movie.
