What is your opinion of the staff changes made to the Ellen DeGeneres Show? Why?

There are no ‘staff changes’ — Ellen was accused of creating a toxic workplace environment. So she comes out and says “hold up, wait a minute… I didn’t do that! It was the producers!” This non-apology is subsequently shared in the media as a ‘heartfelt apology’. Then, three producers of her show quit in protest over being blamed for her toxic behavior.

So what does Ellen Degeneres do? This is quite a shit storm. She has to say something now. So she goes with the good ol’ tried and tested tactic of… ‘I am sorry that you feel that way’.

First she blamed the producers for the toxic workplace environment — even though EVERY SINGLE accusation against her, is against her personally. Not the nasty producers. Not the mean-spirited coffee girl. Not the angry camera guy. Not the vindictive sound technician. No, Ellen Degeneres.

Lets not sugarcoat things as ‘changes made to the show’… Ellen Degeneres may be a fine host and comedian, she may have some nice quotes, done some nice things here and there. Hell she may even be an inspiration for young lesbians or the LGBT or grown people who look like Joffrey from Game of Thrones… it’s besides the point; she acted terribly for a long time and now she tries to weasle her way out of responsibility and she cannot even bring herself to say the words ‘I am sorry’ unconditionally.

She’s sorry that the people she abused feel like she abused them. She’s sorry that the people whose workplace environment she turned into a living hell, feel that way. But above all, she’s sorry that they came forward and told the world about it.
