What do movies always get wrong about your profession?

Archers

In movies, we’re glorious heroes that jump around shooting arrows and always hit our mark. We always use a longbow and weird arrows that look like miniature spears. And, as a plus, we always carry quivers on our backs.

But, in reality. our bows are not the simply adorned pieces of wood, and our arrows don’t look like that. We don’t carry quivers on our back. We don’t let our hands become arrow rests, and we certainly don’t jump around shooting monsters.

In reality, being an archer looks a lot like this.

Stuck between two other archers and holding a bow loaded with all sorts of interesting technology such as clickers, plungers, stabilizers, sights, arrow rests, slings, etc. The closest thing I’ve found in a book or movie that relates to real life archery is in Ranger’s Apprentice, that’s the most realistic interpretation of archery. Back in the day of medieval archery, they had to calculate the wind, distance, etc. Much of it was in muscle memory, which is stated in the book.

I understand that movies and TV shows are mainly set in the past, but make it more believable please.

Can our bows look less like this:

And more like this:

Realism over weirdness please.
