What are the Cheapest winter vacation outside USA
It really depends on what you are looking for. There are vastly different climates through the U.S. so it really depends on the preference of the person. I'll make the argument for my home and my favorite place in the winter.
New England (including. NYC)
Generally, the lower a country’s GDP per capita, the cheaper it is. That being said, here are some of the cheapest, but also nice places that I’ve visited that I recommend:
1. Thailand
This is the destination of choice for many budget travellers. It’s got everything - perfect weather, beautiful white sand beaches, bustling metropolis, delicious food, amazing parties. It’s so budget friendly that even if you’re a student, you can pretty much do anything you want here.
2. Cambodia
Very different from Thailand in its vibe. Cambodia is full of ancient temples and other amazing historical buildings, all set in the tropical jungle. It’s great for a laid back, but not boring, vacation. Extremely cheap to visit.
3. Laos
Similar to Cambodia, but less touristy and even cheaper (it’s probably the cheapest place I’ve been to). It used to be a French colony, and many cities have parts that show an interesting mix of French and local influences. It’s not a place for ancient history, but visit Laos for great food, relaxation and outdoor adventures.
4. Bolivia
It’s very, very cheap to visit Bolivia. While its cities are probably not the most iconic in South America, how can you not experience gorgeous scenery like this? (This is Salar de Uyuni salt flats during wet season)
5. Bali
Probably the most “zen” place in Southeast Asia. Unlike Thailand, Bali is not a place for perfect white sand beaches or parties, but rather visiting it is more of a meditative experience. Towns like Ubud are beautiful hidden gems in the interior of Bali, surrounded by jungles and beautiful rice paddies. The thing to note though is that Bali can be extremely expensive, but you can definitely travel there for very very cheap.
6. Egypt
It didn’t use to be this cheap, but the political situation in the country in the last decade has really taken a hit on Egypt’s tourism. The country has so much amazing ancient history that it really is one of a handful of “must visit” countries in the world.
7. Morocco
I visited Morocco fairly recently and I was blown away by how beautiful it is. It is one of the most photogenic places in the world, with friendly people and incredibly cheap options to travel.

There's nothing quite like New England around Christmas time and really the northeast in general. NYC is an especially popular option for several reasons. There are always tons of seasonal shows and events to go to and everything is lit up at night. Shopping is great around this time as well, due to the Christmas sales, and there's no better place to shop than NYC. Most of New England remains very festive, really any state in the Northeast will have a bunch of stuff to do. You can ski in Vermont and New Hampshire. Boston is always a fun city and that certainly doesn't change around the holidays. The best part is everything is very close together, especially if you have personal transportation. You can drive from a ski resort in Vermont to downtown NYC in less than 4 hours or Boston to NYC in 3 hours. Washington D.C. is only another 4 hours from NYC and Baltimore and Philadelphia are on the way. This is probably just me being nostalgic, but winter doesn't feel the same if there's no snow on the ground. It's definitely a very cost effective way to go.
