Steve Buscemi. Prior to becoming famous, Buscemi was a fire fighter. After the tragedy of 9/11 he volunteered for his firehouse in NYC and helped pull survivors out of the rubble.

James Doohan. Was in the army during WW2. As an artillery captain, he led his men into D-Day at Normandy and took six bullets. One caused his middle finger to be amputated.

I have also altered the Audrey Hepburn comment slightly. I changed “she was a member of the Dutch resistance” to “she helped the Dutch resistance,” as Dave Cridland pointed out she was very young during the war, too young to be an active member.
