Should Johnny Depp be reinstated as Grindelwald for Fantastic Beasts 3?

Hi.

As a fan I would love to see him back in the role of Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

But there’s a few reasons why it won’t happen.

First of all, Mads Mikkelsen, the brilliant Danish actor, widely known has Hannibal Lecter in the Hannibal series and as Le Chiffre in Casino Royal, has been officially cast as Grindelwald, making it almost, if not, impossible to get Johnny back.

Secondly, even though Johnny was asked to resign from the role, he was still paid, as he had a pay to play type of contract. Meaning, that since he showed up and shot one scene he had to be paid in full for it as if he had shot the whole movie.

It is widely believed that he got paid 10 million dollars, but we do know for certain that it was an 8 digit payment.

Thirdly, he is preparing for his trial against Amber Heard in May of next year in the United States.

Losing this role, has given him a much larger window to prepare and spend more time with his lawyers instead of having to think and be tired from his work in the Fantastic Beasts sequel.

Also, the money is most welcomed now, as he had to pay 5 million dollars to his lawyers and 628 thousand dollars to The Sun’s publisher’s legal team as he lost the libel case.

Fourthly, besides getting ready to start the trial in May, he is also making an appeal to change the verdict in the libel case he had this year in London. The judge who presided in the case ruled in favor of The Sun, and later (this week) denied Johnny Depp’s appeal.

Therefor, Johnny will have to go directly to the Court of Appeals and a case there might take up to 3 years.

As you can see he has a very stressful time ahead of him.

I think, that losing his role, was bad. I think he didn’t deserve it. But I also think that due to what’s coming and what he has to do in the near future, losing his role came as a blessing.

Thank you for reading.
