Is New York City the most exciting city in the world?

There are many enjoyable cities in the world: London, Madrid, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Shanghai, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Barcelona, Las Vegas—just to name a few. Now, enjoyable and exciting, I would say both New York City and Tokyo are the most exciting cities in the world. Both cities are alive 24/7. If you want to take a deep breath, you have to step outside of the cities. There always events, concerts, and things going on in the city. Always.

Between New York and Tokyo, I would pick New York City just because its massive diversity, you have people from all over the world in the Big Apple, whereas Tokyo is much more homogeneous. So many things can be put together to name New York City as the most exciting city in the world, from weather, to events and landmarks.

  • Cities such as London are quite entertaining, but man, the monotonous weather is a huge turn down for me. New York will offer you extremely cold winters, and humid summers; rainy and beautiful autumns, and you will get to experience thunderstorms and even snow blizzards.
  • There is something to do everytime. Whether you are someone looking for fun and party, a cultured person looking for museums, libraries, or a neophile in the search of beautiful architecture and design.
  • Landmarks. Even if you visit New York City for one month, you wouldn’t have enough time to explore every landmark. You will find historical places or recognize locations where many films and shows were filmed. They’re everywhere; from Manhattan to Brooklyn, from Queens to the Bronx.
  • Again, New York City is either the most American city or the least American city. Think about it, no city in the United States is like New York. Not Los Angeles, not San Francisco, not Miami and not even Chicago. New York City is the city where you can hear 10 different languages in every corner. It’s the city where you will see an Indian dude fighting a guy from Jamaica in Chinatown. It’s the only city, besides Madrid where I truly felt at home, because you become a New Yorker after day 1. You don’t have to travel around the world to taste every country’s food, because in New York there is always at least one place where you can find it.

I will always enjoy New York City. I have had the opportunity and luck to visit the best cities around the world, but I always enjoy going back to NYC. Some might love it, some might hate it, but to me, it is a beautiful chaos. It’s worth to visit it, to come back, and to live, even with the astronomical prices.
