You are trapped out in the open Arctic with a polar bear approaching. All you have is a pistol, no rifle. What do you do?

Wilderness North of Washington State and West of Washington State, I’m going to have at a minimum a decent sidearm.

This is an XD(M) in 10 mm and it comes with three Magazines, each with 15 rounds. These are inexpensive pistols adequate defense against most North American big game, and I’d rather have 15 10 mm rounds in hand than 6 .44 magnum.

This is terrifying. The Polar Bear is the most scary, powerful predator in North America and they’d not playing. We’re meat to them.

This is what is coming:

I know what’s coming and what I need to do.

I shoot the son of a bitch who convinced me to come out there and got us stranded.

What you’re seeing is BOB the guide being torn to shreds and eaten by the Polar Bear. While the Bear is eating BOB, I’m going to get that critical angle to shoot at the BEAR’s vitals. I’m going to aim and do a magazine dump. Then another one.

I gotta include this:

“I don’t have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you.”

bear, lion, cougar.

We’ve seen that.

Well, it happened in Washington State.

Two men were attacked by a cougar. What the initial story. Two men riding mountain bikes were attacked and one was killed by a cougar.

Now some might be familiar with an older story about two men, one on a bike, being attacked by a cougar and them KILLING the damn cat without any real weapons, using rocks and sticks and using the bike as a shield and barrier until they could pin the cat and kill it.

Two men on bikes losing a fight with a cougar astonished me, in the previous incident, one man was on a bike, and the cougar attacked, and the other helped, so I dug deeper, why the HELL would a cougar attack two men?

It was two people who identified as men. This isn’t about simply how people identify, it’s about how the cat assessed prey, how human beings react to threat and here’s what happened.

The cougar attacked two vulnerable people, in it’s accurate view, and while gnawing on one, instead of helping the other fled. The big cat, instead of continuing to claw and bite a combative person, saw the other one flee and figured that back was a better angle of attack and went after that person, took that person down hard and finished the situation while the other figured payback is a motherfucker and took off, leaving the runner like the runner left him/her but obviously, not as fast.

The cat knows a hard take down on smaller prey that is fleeing is better than fighting someone or something facing you.

Let that other fucker run!

In that situation, the skinnier, much fitter person was partially consumed.

The heavy person survived.

And that kids, is why we always take a marathon runner with us in the woods.
