What are some mind-blowing facts about Indian history?

India is a land of Infinite Secrets. There's no dearth of historical & archaeological marvels in our country. But these are definitely some of the least known historical sites in India.

Ever heard of Petroglyphs?? If you haven't, get curious as I take you on a mesmerizing ride of our rich archaeological history!!

Let's Start…

In the late 1980’s, as a child, Sudhir Risbud used to cycle past a strange, intricately carved square-shaped rock at Niwali, 15 km away from Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. He knew that the stone was unusual and different from all other stones in the area. But little did he know that the stone he saw everyday was a clue to a Lost Ancient Civilization.

Here it is…

These stone arts are called 'Petroglyphs'. They are made by carving, incising & picking rocks.

These Petroglyphs were found mainly in the vicinity of Ratnagiri, Rajapur & Lanja & Sindhudurg. Archaeologists found that these Petroglyphs are nearly 12000 years old. This means that they date back to 10000 BC!!

In the following 25 years, Sudhir along with his friends often explored Konkan landscape. But it wasn't until a historian accompanied them on their trips that they learned the importance of their discoveries.

In 2010, Sudhir launched a program named ‘Adgalnavarche Konkan' - Unexplored Konkan in an attempt to explore such sites systematically & connect them together. As of 2020, nearly 52 sites have been discovered with as much as 1000 Petroglyphs!!
