How do I consume food at a buffet in the most efficient way? I want to maximize my food eating potential.

Most of the standard buffet restaurants in India are priced between Rs 600 - 900. These all-you-can-eat buffet places consist of three courses - starters, main course and desserts. And since you are paying some good money to dine at these places, you would look to get full value of your money. However if you do not strategize your eating, you might end up eating less than half your money's worth.

Here's what I do when I visit an unlimited buffet place such as Barbeque Nation, Sigree, Absolute Barbeque etc.

At first I stuff myself with the starters and then re-order them one by one. Try to avoid the soup, they will fill your stomach. Also, if the buffet includes a beverage, sip it very slowly so as to last it through your entire course. After probably two rounds of repetition, I take a break for a few minutes.

And then I repeat it again, mostly the ones which I liked the most.

This is followed by a break again. You can also choose to walk a little inside the restaurant, take a glimpse of the items there are on the main course. Walking a little will help in digestion, creating more room for food.

I usually don't spend much time on the main course. There are a plenty of options at most places like Biryani, Noodles and Rice along with a lot of side dishes, but I mostly limit myself to the Biryani. Maybe if there's some space left, I might go for something extra like Fried rice and chicken or something which is their speciality.

I usually don't take a repetition of the main course. Once done and I feel I can't eat anymore, I take a break again. We can also use this time to take a photo.

Then the desserts. Desserts don't require an empty stomach since they go straight to your heart!

At the first go, I take the pastries, cakes, pudding etc.

Then again a 10 minute break followed by ice cream.

And if there's a Kulfi Counter, I keep that for last and I prefer them without any toppings.

Take as much time you want between the courses. You can relax a little, sit back for sometime, the restaurant won't kick you out. Typically on an average I spend around two hours at a buffet. In some cases where the buffet place has a time limit of 3 hours, you can visit the place a bit early. Many restaurants offer Early Bird discounts too on reaching early which you can add to your benefit.
