Budae-jjigae - Wikipedia or army stew

I make this all the time at home. It’s basically fancied up instant noodle soup.

The ingredients are relatively cheap (you can remove sausages and fishballs if they’re too expensive, and replace them with spam). Mostly are cheap vegetables and tofu.

And it’s easy to make, just boil all the ingredients together, add instant noodle and seasoning (that came with the noodle package).

It’s my go-to dinner. Because it’s easy and cheap and delicious.

There really isn’t a fixed list of ingredients. I usually just look at what I have in the fridge and boil everything together.

The usual ingredients I use are:

  • some kind of vegetable: napa cabbage, tomato, zucchini,
  • some kind of mushroom.
  • tofu
  • konjac
  • some kind of seafood (usually frozen fish/shrimp, or fishballs)
  • some kind of meat (usually frozen sliced beef, or mini sausage links)
  • egg
  • And instant noddle.

The process is super easy: boil about 600 cc water (this is for one person), put the instant noodle seasoning in water. add all the ingredients except for the noodle. napa cabbage and tofu go in first, then tomato, konjac, seafood, meat…. boil for like 5–10 min. add egg and instant noodles.

You can add a slice of cheese at the end, just place it on top of the stew.

ENJOY!

(You can make a simplified version with a microwave oven).
