Mental Health?

I think mental health has a lot to do with response flexibility—-that is, being able to make intentional decisions about how to engage challenging situations or emotions.
That, in turn, requires a reasonable degree of self-awareness—I need to be able to notice when I'm getting overwhelmed, and take steps to manage my own intensity; and I need to be able to recognize when I am in full-on, self-protective survival mode, and it is time to take a break.
And: I think mental health and wellness is a process, not a product, which is why you won't find a whole heck of a lot of people who can do everything on that list with perfect consistency! I feel like those are the inspirational goals that I tend to work from—-with the understanding that we won't get all the way there, because there is no “there,” there. We and our lives are in constant flux and change, so—-responsiveness to that is also going to have to change over time.

Feel like bull Over the course of your life, if you experience mental health problems, your thinking, mood, and behavior could be affected. Many factors contribute to mental health problems, including:
  • Biological factors, such as genes or brain chemistry
  • Life experiences, such as trauma or abuse
  • Family history of mental health problems
