Depends upon the individual
Top level management guys used to send more than 100-200 mails and birthday messages and have meetings through Skype or more. For a busy professional smartphones makes life very easier.
At the same time it makes life complicated for kids they get addicted to smart phone playing games and students they lacked concentration on studies and spending time on social network.
The fun of staying away from these, is completely different and can be only experienced when you don't have it around you. These days we are so dependent on it that, everything that we need revolves around it. But trust me, try it out for sometime. You would know the other side of life.
You may develop an inferiority complex by looking at others' smartphones because you don't have it any more. But then you can feel proud to have sacrificed a phone for a serene life.
During my college days It is not really a big deal. It happened to me that I lost my smart phone and had to use my Nokia basic phone for around 2 months. But frankly i felt odd for a day or two and slowly got used to it. I saved more time now, no looking at stupid apps unnecessarily.
